JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY:

Reporting to the CFO, responsible for corporate and business unit financial planning, analysis, decision support, and annual budget preparation, recommendation and acceptance processes. Prescribes financial process development, communications, system guidance, presentation formats, and controls. Directs monthly, quarterly, and annual financial analyses, forecasts and plans, driving fiscal understanding for Foss management and parent company stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Business Unit Support

  • Build and direct a Business Unit Controller and Financial Analyst team, including hiring, firing, evaluating, mentoring.
  • Provide decision support analysis to the Foss lines of business through oversight of the Business Unit Controllers and Financial Analysis team.
  • Oversee risk analyses on various operating assumptions to determine and recommend strategies for optimal performance.
  • Oversee pricing support for projects and reviews of actual results vs. pro forma or planned results.
  • Work closely with business unit management on analysis and review of projects, existing business activities, and new business opportunities.
  • Work with business unit management to understand business issues and report against them through the use of KPI’s and other management reports.
  • Manage financial/accounting issues generated by the business; work closely with the Corporate Controller in resolving and documenting conclusions.
  • Provide monthly and annual flash/forecast support to the business, working closely with the Corporate Controller in documenting and reporting.
  • Identify and recommend areas for business process improvements.
  • Performs special duties and other projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to all company policies.
  • Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.

Planning, Financial Analysis and Business Unit Management Reporting

  • Drive the annual budget process and long range planning.
  • Lead the interface with each of the business units and the accounting department, to develop and confirm the assumptions used for budgeting, forecasting, and monitoring results.
  • Oversee the preparation of short and long-term financial forecasts of financial performance for use with internal management and the parent company.
  • Drive development of line of business reporting, and analysis and establishes periodic distribution and discussion on results.
  • Support business unit management in the development, preparation and distribution of KPI reporting and analysis.
  • Oversee periodic reporting and communication of business results.
  • Work closely with the Corporate Controller to document appropriate accounting treatment and improve business processes.
  • Establish policies and procedures over revenue recognition and estimated cost to complete accounting for projects in GAAP, including project-level accounting and reporting.
  • Support month end close process, business unit review, accruals, accounting estimates and accounting adjustments through supervision of the Business Unit Controllers and Financial Analysts, and working closely with the Corporate Controller.

Supervisory and Leadership of Direct Staff

  • Responsible for all matters of employment including recruiting, training, development, promotion, discipline and termination.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Able to lead, manage and mentor a diverse team of professional finance staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to blend management accounting skills (including financial analysis and GAAP expertise) with operational acumen.
  • High-level expertise in Excel modeling.
  • Computer proficiency, including MS Office Suite; SAP and reporting tools preferred.
  • Strong listening, problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to communicate financial concepts and reports to non-financial managers.
  • Strong ability to communicate well with all levels and personalities, including discussing business problems and presenting recommendations to managers and senior leaders.
  • Ability to deliver presentations to large and small groups.
  • Knowledge of the maritime industry preferred.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with work that is accurate and well thought out.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize projects and competing deadlines in a demanding environment.
  • Ability to maintain professional attitude, sense of humor, and leadership skills during times of stress.
  • Ability to analyze and handle confidential and sensitive information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, CPA, CMA, MBA, or equivalent and 7 – 10 years’ progressively responsible experience in accounting, planning and decision-support roles. Demonstrable experience as a change agent and experience in financial systems implementations. Demonstrated experience managing staff and building teams. Strong technical GAAP skills, with public accounting experience preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with the Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is mostly performed in a normal office environment. May be required to work more than a normal workweek, including weekends.  Travel may also be required. Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement. Requires close interaction with supervised staff. Work day of many meetings, interruptions, and coaching/counseling employees.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The workday usually has a high number of interruptions and priority changes necessitating the need to remain flexible and focused in order to accomplish tasks. May be required to work more than a normal workweek, including weekends.  Travel may also be required.
