ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The individual assigned to this position must, with or without reasonable accommodations, be able to perform the following essential functions:

  • Is in the direct charge of this craft and shop including discipline, recommendation of manpower levels, time keeping, attendance records, training, safety, etc.
  • Exercises technical supervision of craft advising Superintendents and Management on technical problems within his specific area of expertise.
  • Supervises work in progress for which his craft is lead craft or has responsibility.
  • Manages budgetary control by effective management of manpower and materials.
  • Maintains shop and shop equipment within budget.
  • Support Ship Superintendents by assigning and supervising men/women on jobs and by ordering material.
  • Supports Production Manager by acting as Ship Superintendent when required.
  • Completes and makes notations on work orders to indicate date completed, to document material used, and to note deviations from work descriptions.
  • Advises Management regarding Shipyard problems.
  • Advises Management regarding Shipyard problems.
  • Performs special duties and other projects as assigned
  • Adheres to all company policies.
  • Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to keep attendance and training records.
  • Must be able to manage shop budgets.
  • Must have ability to track job costs as required.
  • Must be able to learn company software. SAP experience helpful.
  • Must be able to manage people.
  • Must be adept, mobile and flexible.
  • Ability to effectively communicate across all lines of employees, vendors, customers and guests. Strong interpersonal skills essential.
  • Must be aware of safety and pollution regulations in compliance with company policy and plant rules.
  • Must have technical background in order to advise Ship Superintendents and other management of technical problems directly related to Foreman’s particular shop.
  • Must be responsible for housekeeping, maintenance of shop equipment and maintenance of tooling which are specialized to Foreman’s shop.
  • Must be familiar with the operation of the Shipyard and must be able to act independently and decisively.
  • Must be conscientious with regard to budgets, safety and company policy.
  • Must be able to discuss problems and solutions with crew as well as being an effective listener. Should have the ability to motivate people.

EQUIPMENT USED:

  • Shop equipment/tools pertaining to craft.
  • Forklifts/manlifts/cranes pertaining to craft.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must join union upon hiring in.
  • A physical and UA are also pre-requisite of employment.
