JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY:

The Foss Shipyard located on Lake Union in Seattle has an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual who is looking for a challenging position in the maritime industry. As the Project Controls Coordinator, you wil coordinate and oversee project data and controls for shipyard projects utilizing SAP as a resource. The position provides support for project planning and scheduling, cost estimating/monitoring, and quality review. Additionally, the Coordinator offers support for project estimation process, production management and government contracts, as well as recommending operating policies and procedures to mitigate risk. The PCC administers project controls within parameters specified by bid documents and internal requirements, while providing guidance and consultation for project managers. The position includes a variety of tasks in support of assigned projects, while employing a wide degree of creativity and latitude.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Planning

  • Defines project requirements, including performance, cost and schedule objectives within bid package.
  • Obtains concurrence of project management from other Foss departments, customer, vendors, etc., on objectives.
  • Determines requirements of resources from other departments, customers, vendors, etc.

Organizing

  • Responsible for identifying cost/availability of equipment, materials and subcontractors.
  • Responsible for identifying, developing and providing daily, weekly and monthly project progress reports, both internal and external.
  • Responsible for developing project material control structure and ensure project personnel are correctly assigning costs to allocated structure.
  • Carries out competitive bidding of project materials; verifies compliance with contract mandates.
  • Carries out required tradeoff studies. Example, purchase service from vendors or utilize Foss services and assets.
  • Performs technical evaluations of alternative problem solutions with regard to materials, equipment and suppliers.
  • Attends customer project progress meetings and provides detailed reports on progress made.

Directing

  • Communicates (written, verbal, telephone) with others involved.
  • Recommends means and methods to improve project profit profitability.
  • Identifies and solves problems as required.

Controlling

  • Measures results against the plan (cost, schedule, and performance) and communicates results to others.
  • Responsible for tracking materials control policies and compliance; providing reports of the same.
  • Responsible for progress tracking to support customer invoicing based upon progress made.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining and providing material utilization reports.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining and providing project profitability reports.

Support of Staff

  • Effectively communicates project service & material documentation requirements and objectives.
  • Supports team member project goals and objectives. Provides support for company Core Values, Mission and Safety Vision.
  • Performs special duties and other projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to all company policies.
  • Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.

Administrative

  • Responsible for supporting project personnel in coordinating purchasing activities.
  • Support shipyard sales team on developing customer proposals on as needed and as available basis.
  • Support shipyard financial team in developing monthly and annual budget and forecast marine transportation activities outside of current assignment.
  • Support financial team in developing project forecast reports with respect to contracted materials and services.
  • Support shipyard operational planning and business strategy efforts

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • The English language adequate for effective spoken, written, and phone communication.
  • Standard accounting methods, project scheduling, system safety and reliability, shipyard safety requirements.
  • Ship and barge operation, construction, maintenance and repair.
  • Supply chain logistics, maritime shipping industry

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent communication and human relation skills necessary in dealing with Foss employees, subcontractors, vendors, and customers.
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive coherent written technical reports.
  • Ability to plan and organize work in an often-changing environment.
  • Ability to remain calm and maintain a sense of humor during times of stress.
  • Ability to use a personal computer for word-processing, spreadsheets, SAP, and scheduling software (P6 or MS Project).
  • Ability to give attention to detail, to make decisions, and to solve problems (sometimes involving complex technical or management issues).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

This position generally requires a high school diploma and two years of relevant experience in the marine, construction or logistics industry including some project management or relevant experience. A degree in accounting, business, logistics or construction management is highly desirable.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Approximately 80% of the work is conducted in a normal office environment; the remaining 20% is performed in the field around the vicinity of heavy equipment. High noise levels exist and hearing protection is required. May be required to work more than a normal work week, including weekends.  Travel will be required. Availability to work on a 24 hour around the clock basis in highly remote areas. Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement.
